Service 08 · Creative & communication

Say the same thing everywhere, on purpose.

Most brands do not have a creative problem, they have a coordination problem. The website was written by one person, the pitch deck by another, the social captions by whoever had time that week, and a prospect who touches all three comes away with three slightly different impressions of who you are. None of them wrong exactly, just not the same company.

In short

Creative and communication work is the layer that fixes that: a clear point of view, a voice that reads consistently whether it is a proposal or a tweet, and campaign concepts strong enough that the media buy and the content team are not fighting the creative to make it perform.

Selected work

02

Work we are happy to put our name on.

A small, real portfolio rather than a wall of borrowed logos. Websites, short form video and campaign design produced for clients who are still running the work today.

01

Positioning before pretty

We do not open with mood boards. We open with the questions a positioning exercise should answer plainly: who exactly this is for, what they currently believe that is wrong or incomplete, what you want them to believe instead, and why you specifically are the credible source of that belief. Most creative disagreements inside a company are actually unresolved disagreements about these four questions, surfacing as arguments about fonts and taglines.

We run this through short structured interviews with founders, sales and a handful of good customers, not a long survey nobody reads properly. The output is a positioning document your team can actually use to settle a disagreement about a headline, rather than a slide that gets presented once and archived.

Positioning document
Audience, the belief you are changing, your proof, and the language you use and avoid.
Messaging architecture
One core message with supporting proof points, mapped to each audience and funnel stage.
Voice and tone guide
How the brand sounds in a headline, a support reply and a LinkedIn post, with real examples.
Campaign concepts
Creative platforms built to run across paid, organic and offline without losing coherence.
02

A voice guide people actually open

Most brand guidelines describe a personality in adjectives, warm, bold, trustworthy, and then leave the writer to guess what that means in a sentence. We write ours as before and after examples against real content types your team produces, an email subject line, a product description, a rejection to a job applicant, so anyone on the team can check their own draft against it without asking us.

We also document the words and constructions the brand avoids, which is often more useful than the list of what it should sound like. Removing hedging language, industry jargon that means nothing to a buyer, and claims your product cannot actually back up tends to do more for how a brand reads than any amount of added personality.

03

Campaign creative that survives contact with media

A concept that looks good in a deck and falls apart the moment it has to become a six second ad, a static post and a print banner was never a real concept, it was a single execution mistaken for one. We build campaign platforms with the constraints of the actual channels in mind from the first sketch, so the idea holds up whether it is a fifteen second video or a single headline on a hoarding.

Where DG5 also runs the paid media or content for a client, campaign creative is built with the performance data already in view, past ad angles that worked, audience objections the sales team hears, seasonal moments worth owning. Where we are only doing the creative work, we hand over a brief thorough enough for another team to execute correctly.

04

Internal communication, not just external

A surprising amount of external inconsistency starts internally, a sales deck that oversells, an onboarding email that undersells, a support script that contradicts the marketing site's promise. We often end up writing the internal materials too, sales one pagers, pitch decks, onboarding copy, because they are read by the same prospect in the same week as the ads and the site.

Getting these aligned is usually the fastest, cheapest fix available to a company that feels like its marketing is not converting. The offer often was not the problem, the story told about it kept changing depending on who the prospect happened to be talking to.

05

How the work gets delivered

Engagements typically start with the positioning and voice work as a fixed scope project, delivered as documents your team can put in front of any new hire, agency or freelancer. From there, many clients move to a retainer for ongoing campaign concepts and copy review, effectively a second pair of eyes checking that new work stays on the line established at the start.

We keep every document in an editable, shared format rather than a locked PDF, because a positioning document that cannot be updated as the business evolves quietly becomes fiction within a year.

Questions

What clients ask before signing.

How is this different from a branding agency doing our logo and colours?

+

Visual identity is one output of positioning work, but our focus is the words and the message, what you say and why anyone should believe it. We work alongside visual designers or your existing brand system rather than replacing it.

We already have brand guidelines, do we need this?

+

Often the guidelines cover visuals thoroughly and say almost nothing usable about voice or message. We can review what exists and build only the pieces that are missing rather than starting over.

How long does the positioning work take?

+

Most projects run four to six weeks from the first interview to a finished document, depending on how many stakeholders need to be interviewed and how much internal alignment is required to sign off.

Will you write our actual website and ad copy too?

+

Yes, either as part of this engagement or handed off to whichever team is producing that content, with the messaging architecture as the reference they write against.

Does this work for a very small team without a dedicated marketing person?

+

Yes, and it often matters more there. A clear positioning document saves a small team from relitigating the same messaging argument every time new content gets written.

How do you handle disagreement between founders about the message?

+

We surface it early through the interviews rather than let it appear later as inconsistent copy. Where founders genuinely disagree, we bring customer evidence into the room, which usually settles it faster than opinion.

Do you only work on one off projects or also ongoing retainers?

+

Both. Positioning and voice work is usually a fixed scope project. Many clients then keep us on retainer for campaign concepts and copy review as new content ships.
